The New York State comptrollerâs office said on Friday that it had invested in a website backed by Kenneth Lerer, the veteran venture capitalist, as it continues to support homegrown technology companies.
The latest investment is The Dodo Inc., which focuses on human rights. Itâs the latest venture supported by Mr. Lerer, who co-founded the Huffington Post and is now the chairman of both BuzzFeed and the technology incubator Betaworks.
The comptroller, Thomas P. DiNapoli, has sought to promote New Yorkâs tech scene through a series of investments made via the In-State Private Equity Program. It dovetails with Mayor Michael R. Bloombergâs âMade in N.Y.â initiative for New York City start-ups.
Mr. DiNapoliâs investment in The Dodo was done through SoftBank Capital, one of the managers participating in the program.
